Philip Hughes BVSc MRCVS

Philip is the senior Director at Priory Vet Group working mainly from the Highcliffe Branch Surgery. He is the main Equine and Large Animal vet but has worked with all species. His passion is for horses both at home and at work but with family abroad he loves to travel.

Emma Newton BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS

Emma was born in Poole and educated at Talbot Heath in Bournemouth. She graduated from Bristol in 1999 and worked in several mixed practices across the country before joining Priory Vet Group in 2008 and becoming a Director in 2015.

She has always loved Ophthalmology (eyes) and sat her examinations in 2006. She became an Advanced Practitioner in 2015 (as soon as this scheme started).

Outside work Emma is kept very busy with her family and young labrador cross Millie. A mad keen sportswoman Emma plays netball weekly and tennis, swimming, running and riding when she can, life is always full speed.


Daniel trained at the Royal Veterinary College in London. He joined us at Priory Veterinary Group in 2012. He became an owner and director in 2015. In what proved to be a busy year, he also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.

Although not Dorset born and bred, Daniel feels very much at home living in Highcliffe. He got married at Highcliffe Castle to his wife Katy. Alfie, their Black Labrador, performed the ring bearing duties. As all good Labradors should, he stopped to try and eat some petals on the way down the aisle!

Like most vets, Daniel always wanted to be a veterinary surgeon. He counts himself very lucky doing a job he loves. When he gets time away from the practice he can be found walking Alfie and his young daughter Georgie. He has a season ticket at Tottenham Hotspur.

Louise Nixon BVetMed MRCVS

Louise graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1997 and has worked in mixed and small animal practice ever since including the Pdsa and RSPCA.

She is a keen windsurfer and triathlete and is currently training for her first triathlon. Her cat rules the roost at home.

Laura Buckland BVetMed MRCVS

Laura graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2008 and joined Priory Veterinary Group in 2011. She is working towards the Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Laura enjoys all aspects of mixed practice.  Her special interest is Emergency and Critical Care and she is passionate about treating your pet with kindness and dignity as if it were her own and is known for giving very straightforward advice and information.

Laura lives locally with her husband and two young children.  They have three dogs, two cats, a handful of chickens and a tortoise called Ernie.

Jess Roose MA VetMB MRCVS

Jess joined Priory Vet Group after graduating from Cambridge University in 2013. Her main interests are imaging and cardiology so she spends much of her time in dark corners of the hospital performing ultrasound scans! She is currently studying towards a certificate in small animal cardiology.

Out-side of work you may see her walking her Jack Russell, Mickey, around Mudeford Wood and Hengistbury Head or if she’s feeling energetic, playing Netball with a local team. She makes regular trips back to her family’s home in Cornwall where she enjoys trying to surf and walking on Dartmoor.

Tom Slater BVetMed MRCVS

Tom graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London. He is enthusiastic about all aspects of companion animal practice but particularly surgery, radiography and responsible use of antibiotics.

In rare moments of spare time he loves to snowboard, play the guitar and cook.

Katy Putterford MA VetMB MRCVS

Katy graduated from Cambridge University and joined Priory Veterinary Group in August 2015. She is enthusiastic about all aspects of small animal practice and particularly enjoys surgery.

Outside of work she enjoys baking, catching up with friends and taking her two westies, Megan and Molly for long walks on the beach.

Sophie Jenns MA VetMB MRCVS

Sophie qualified from Cambridge University in 2015. she moved down to the South Coat to join us and is really enjoying exploring this beautiful area.

She doesn’t currently have any animals but enjoys entertaining her family labradors when they come to stay. In her free time she enjoys hockey, swimming and taekwondo.

Hanna Bones BVetMed MRCVS

Hanna qualified from the RVC, London, in 2012. After initially working in small animal and mixed practice, she then worked as an equine vet in both the UK and Australia. Hanna joined Priory Vet Group in November 2016 and is enjoying returning to the variety of mixed practice.

Outside of work she is kept busy with two silly dogs and spends most of her weekends exploring the countryside and visiting friends.


Roxy Lewis CertV NECC Dip VN RVN Nursing Manager

Roxy joined Priory in 2008 as a trainee. She qualified in 2012 and soon became a clinical coach, in 2013 she was appointed Head Nurse

Roxy has a keen interest in emergency and critical care nursing and recently completed further studies to become a certificate holder, she passed with distinction. In her spare time she enjoys taking her cheeky terrier out for long walks in the countryside.

Gemma Read BSc RVN Deputy Nursing Manager

Gemma is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with an interest in diagnostic imaging.

She has been at the practice since 2009 but before joining the practice Gemma also gained a degree in Animal Science (Behaviour and Welfare). In her spare time she enjoys cooking, walks in the forest and spending time at the beach.

Sam Vine RVN

Sam is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who has been at Priory since 2009. Sam has a keen interest in looking after our hospitalised patients and enjoys the variety nursing brings. She is also a clinical coach, helping our trainee nurses with their studies.

Sam became a Mum in 2015 and now works part time. She has a particular soft spot for Labradors.

Katie Powell RVN

Katie qualified in 2016. She has been a part of the team since 2012 starting as a Saturday animal care assistant, then progressing to her role as a veterinary nurse.

Katie has a keen interest in medical nursing and enjoys caring for the hospitalised patients especially assisting with their recovery. At home Katie enjoys spending time with her cocker spaniel Alfie, taking him for long walks in the forest. She also has a keen interest in photography which fills her spare time.

Jess Hall Student Nurse

Jess started working at Priory Vet Group in December 2013. She is currently in her second year of training at Sparsholt College.

Jess has a keen interest in feline care and behaviour and has one cat at home called Yuna. She also has great affection for giant breed dogs and would one day love to own a Newfoundland (once she’s moved to a bigger house!).

Aliie Harpham Nursing Assistant

Aliie joined Priory Vet Group in September 2015. Her main passion is training sled dogs in particular Siberian Huskies.

She has lived and worked with sled teams in Austria, Sweden and Finland. In January this year she achieved her Diploma in Animal Psychology. Allie lives at home with her two cats Archie and Elvis. Her main interests are animal behaviour, surgical nursing and anaesthesia.

Nina Sargeant Nursing Assistant

Nina joined Priory in 2016 as a trainee nurse, having started her training in another practice.

She enjoys all aspects of nursing especially inpatient care and giving patients all important cuddle therapy. Nina also has a keen interest in nutrition. Nina loves walking her dog Hugo, horse riding and kayaking with her partner.

Maddie Clothier Nursing Assistant

Maddie studied Animal Management at Sparsholt College and joined Priory Vet Group in early 2016 to further her career as a trainee Veterinary Nurse.

She has a chihuahua called Matilda, a cat called Fredrick, who she rescued from the RSPCA and also a rabbit called Charlie. In Maddie’s spare time she enjoys going to the beach with friends, looking after her pets and spending time with family.

Lucy Biddulph Student Nurse

Lucy joined Priory Vet Group in 2016 having previously worked as an Animal Care Assistant.

Lucy has four dogs at home and loves walking them along the south coast and at National Trust properties. Lucy especially loves Cavalier King Charles Spaniels because they are so affectionate and are always wagging their tails.

Beth Attfield, Nursing Assistant

Beth joins us from another practice where she had been a nursing assistant for 18 months previously.

Beth is looking forward to being at Priory where she’ll have the opportunity to further her knowledge and skills at a bigger practice. When she’s not in Christchurch, Beth can often be found at Swanage railway with her partner, Ash, who is a driver there. They both hope to move soon to a house with a garden so that they can start their fur baby family.

Charlie Taylor Student Nurse

Charlie is studying for her nursing degree and working at our Highcliffe branch as a receptionist on Saturdays.

With four cats at home it’s fair to say that Charlie loves nursing cats and making a fuss of our inpatients.

Nikki Jacob-Moss Animal Care Assistant

Nikki studied Animal Care at Kingston Maurward in Dorchester and has been a part of the Priory team since 2007.

She shares her home with her cat Martha, her tortoise Tarquin and not forgetting her husband Paul. In her spare time she enjoys walking and cycling.

Office & Reception Team

Nicky Fitoussi Practice Manager

Nicky joined the Practice in 2005 and is responsible for the non clinical aspects of the Practice, such as its Administration, Payroll, Accounts, HR, Computers.

Nicky lives with her partner in Highcliffe. She enjoys laser sailing and cooking in her spare time and has one adopted cat who take pride of place at home.

Sarah Johnson Administrator

Sarah joined PVG in the year 2000 and works as an administrator in the office at Christchurch dealing primarily with insurance claims and paperwork associated with tuberculosis testing in cattle.

Outside of work she enjoys sport, especially playing badminton and dog agility training with her cocker spaniel called Harvey.

Mandy Alvis Credit Control/Receptionist

Mandy has extensive banking experience and joined us in 2016.

Mandy lives in Lymington with her fiance and two dogs. In her spare time she enjoys dog agility training with her cocker spaniel, Lily and playing badminton with her daughter. Her hobbies include making home furnishings and driving their classic car around the New Forest.

Debbie Lloyd Administrator

Debbie has been with Priory Vet Group since 2006 and works as an administrator in the office. She likes nothing more than walking her terrier Harley on the New Forest and meeting other dog walkers.

Her passion in life is her singing and she is part of an award-winning female vocal ensemble called La Nova Singers. They perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and contemporary choral music and give concerts through the area with a regular gig at Highcliffe Castle at Christmas.

Suzy Robbins Receptionist

Suzy moved down to the south coast from County Durham in 1986 for a summer job and liked it so much she never went back. She has worked at Priory Vet Group since 2007 on reception, credit control and general admin.

She loves animals and is a strict vegetarian. In her spare time she enjoys walking, watching movies, eating cake and playing candy crush saga! She is looking forward to starting her latest house renovation project.

Jackie Cole Receptionist

Jackie has worked at Priory Veterinary Group at their Bransgore Branch for many years. She enjoys taking her dogs out in the forest with her horses.

Pam Dolbear Receptionist

Pam is part of the reception team and works at both Christchurch and Highcliffe.

Pam enjoys walking and running on the New Forest with her two cocker spaniels and loves seeing all the ponies and wildlife.  Her other passions are baking, spending time with the family and going to live concerts and singing along!

Lynn Kendall Receptionist

Lynn works part time at Priory Vet Group. She has past experience looking after horses, cats, dogs, chickens and geese. More recently she finds enjoyment walking her dog Benji and running to keep fit.

Frances Hush Receptionist

Frances joined PVG in 2017, she was born in Poole and now lives in Highcliffe with her teenage children, 2 Labradors, 2 cats and a slightly more exotic land hermit crab. She also sponsors 2 baby orphaned elephants in Africa.
Jeanette Broomfield, Raffy Reeve and Sam Kingswell are also long standing members of our reception team. They would prefer you to come in and meet them rather than have their pictures on show!
