To improve animal welfare and help reduce the number of lost and stray dogs, from 6th April 2016 it will be compulsory for all dogs in the UK to be microchipped and recorded on a governement compliant database.
At Priory Vets, we use Petlog, the UK’s largest microchip database, providing lifetime registration with a lost and found reunification service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The new legislation requires all puppies born after 6th April 2016 to be implanted and recorded in the breeder’s name by the time they are 8 weeks old (unless there is a medical reason why they cannot).
Unchipped adult dogs must also be implanted with a microchip with up to date details by the 6th April 2016. So if your dog is not yet chipped or you have a new puppy, please call us to make an appointment.
For transfer of ownership for puppies moving to new homes, the breeder will download and pass to the new owner the Petlog Transfer code which is linked to that microchipped puppy. The new keeper must complete the transfer of keepership into their own name by accessing the Petlog website at www.petlog.org.uk using the Petlog Transfer Code.
Kennel Club registered puppies receive free transfer of keepership from Petlog – upon completion of the Kennel club change of ownership.
