Export Health Certificates

Travelling with a pet to the EU from 2021.

At Priory Vet Group we can help you to take your pet on holiday. As of 1st January 2021, all UK-issued Pet Passports will be invalid. If you are planning on travelling abroad to the EU with your pet please see the following update from DEFRA.
1. Dogs and cats must be microchipped.
2. Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies (Please note all pets must be at least 12 weeks old before they can be vaccinated)
3. Clients must wait at least 21 days after the primary vaccination before travel.
4. If you’re travelling to Finland, Republic of Ireland, NI, Norway or Malta, your pet will require a tapeworm treatment 1-5 days before entry. This will need to be certified on the Export Health Certificate (also called an Animal Health Certificate/AHC)
5. Clients must arrange to visit us to obtain an Export Health Certificate (EHC) for their pet, no more than 10 days before travel to the EU.

A separate Export Health Certificate must be issued for EACH journey to the EU.

We will email you a questionnaire to complete before your appointment to ensure we have the correct information. We will ask that you bring proof with you of:
• pet’s microchipping date
• pet’s vaccination history.

The EHC will be valid for:
• 10 days after the date of issue for entry into the EU or NI
• onward travel within the EU or NI for 4 months after the date of issue
• re-entry to GB for 4 months after the date of issue

Please note if you are travelling on to non-EU countries there may be further certification/tests you will need to have completed before travel. It is the pet owners’ responsibility to ensure they have complied with all import requirements prior to departure.

EHC are long documents that will require a lot of time to complete. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible to organise an export consult for you as it will take longer than normal and can be completed by a only few of our vets who have Official Veterinarian Status (meaning the number of appointments we can offer for travel are limited). The cost of an EHC will be £150.

Please note if you are late attending your export consultation, we may not have time to complete the certificate that day and another appointment may be required which could affect your travel.
