With the summer holidays in full swing, your dog might be joining you on getaways, walk-filled staycations, or spending more time with fellow furry friends. All that mingling can increase their exposure to Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) — commonly known as Kennel Cough.
That’s why we’re delighted to offer Respira Bb, a new injectable vaccine that provides gentle, effective protection against kennel cough for sociable dogs.

What is Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease?
CIRD is a highly infectious condition affecting dogs of all ages. It’s commonly spread in places where dogs mix — such as boarding kennels, grooming salons, training classes and even busy parks.
Symptoms include a persistent hacking cough, lethargy, and inappetence. While most dogs recover within 7–10 days, more severe cases can result in bronchopneumonia, high fevers, and difficulty breathing — often requiring hospitalisation and oxygen therapy.
Why consider vaccination?
All sociable dogs are at risk of CIRD — not just those in kennels. Vaccination can:
- Lessen the severity of symptoms
- Reduce the spread of disease
- Protect vulnerable pets and people in your household
- Limit the use of antibiotics within the dog population
What is special about the new vaccination?
Unlike traditional intranasal vaccines, Respira Bb is given as an injection under the skin on their neck, just like your dog’s other routine jabs. It’s often better tolerated, especially by older dogs, and poses no risk to immunocompromised household members because it’s an inactivated vaccine.
FAQs
1. When should I get my dog covered?
We usually begin with a single intranasal dose, as it’s well tolerated by most dogs — and helps reduce the number of vet visits. Annual boosters can then be given as a single injection, provided they’re administered within 12 months. If your pet doesn’t tolerate the nasal spray — or lives with immunocompromised individuals — we’ll begin with two injectable doses, given 4 weeks apart, followed by annual boosters.
2. Is it included in the Priory Pet Club?
Yes! The injectable kennel cough vaccination is covered under our Complete Membership. To keep prices competitive, we’ll start with the nasal spray when appropriate, but offer injectable boosters annually. If you prefer to begin with two injections, there’s a small additional fee to cover the second dose. Not a member yet? 3. Is vaccinating worth it?
If you’re unsure, we’d love to help. Book a vet consult to:
- Discuss your dog’s individual risks
- Review their preventative healthcare plan
- Perform a full health check
