Philip Hughes BVSc MRCVS
Philip is the senior Director at Priory Vet Group working mainly from the Highcliffe Branch Surgery. He is the main Equine and Large Animal vet but has worked with all species. His passion is for horses both at home and at work but with family abroad he loves to travel.
Emma Newton BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS
Emma was born in Poole and educated at Talbot Heath in Bournemouth. She graduated from Bristol in 1999 and worked in several mixed practices across the country before joining Priory Vet Group in 2008 and becoming a Director in 2015.
She has always loved Ophthalmology (eyes) and sat her examinations in 2006. She became an Advanced Practitioner in 2015.
Outside work Emma is kept very busy with her family and young labrador cross Millie. A keen sportswoman, Emma plays netball weekly and does tennis, swimming, running and riding when she can.
Daniel May BVetMed BSAVA GPCertSAS MRCVS
Daniel trained at the Royal Veterinary College in London. He joined us at Priory Veterinary Group in 2012. He became an owner and director in 2015. In what proved to be a busy year, he also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.
Although not Dorset born and bred, Daniel feels very much at home living in Highcliffe. He got married at Highcliffe Castle to his wife Katy. Alfie, their Black Labrador, performed the ring bearing duties. As all good Labradors should, he stopped to try and eat some petals on the way down the aisle! Outside of work Dan is kept busy with his two children. He has a keen interest in yoga.
Jess Roose MA VetMB PgC(SAC) MRCVS
Jess joined Priory in 2013 after graduating from Cambridge University. She completed a certificate in small animal cardiology in 2017 and has a particular interest in imaging and critical care. She is currently studying towards another certificate in emergency medicine and surgery.
Outside of work you may see her walking her Jack Russell, Mickey, around Mudeford Wood and Hengistbury Head or if she’s feeling energetic, playing Netball with a local team.
Katy Putterford MA VetMB MRCVS
Katy graduated from Cambridge University and joined Priory Veterinary Group in August 2015. She is enthusiastic about all aspects of small animal practice and particularly enjoys surgery. Outside of work she is kept busy with her young daughter and 2 westies, Megan and Molly. She enjoys baking, catching up with friends and long family walks in the forest.
Sophie Jenns MA VetMB MRCVS
After qualfiying from Cambridge in 2015, Sophie was with priory Vet Group for two years. She returned after an eight month break travelling the world and locuming at different practices. Sophie has no pets at the moment, although her parents have two Labradors who Sophie says are basically like her brothers as she’s an only child! She gets her pet fix while at work instead at the moment.
Sophie says “having seen practice in different places, I was keen to re-join the Priory team because I really like the very high standard of care that we expect to provide so I can offer that to my clients, and because the team is really friendly and helpful.” Sophie is currently undertaking a Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. Outside of work Sophie and her partner have recently bought a house and are working on it together.
Imogen Else BVSc MRCVS
Imogen graduated from Bristol University, and joined Priory Veterinary Group in summer 2018. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary care but has a particular interest in medicine. Imogen is originally from north Buckinghamshire but has family in Bransgore so was familiar with the local area. Outside of work she thoroughly enjoys walking her family’s cocker spaniels in the forest, horse-riding and baking. More recently she has started cycling too!
Marcus Willcock BVSc MRCVS
Marcus joined the team after seeing practice with Priory as a student for three years and subsequently graduating from the University of Bristol in 2019. Originally from Petersfield in Hampshire, his family then moved to the Bournemouth area during his childhood. Now as a vet at the practice, he is looking forward to meeting all of Priory’s clients and their animals in the near future! Outside of work, Marcus has a keen interest in music and loves to play the guitar. He is a lifelong AFC Bournemouth fan and likes to keep active with a wide range of activities from running to scuba diving! During his time off he is always planning to travel and he hopes to continue his charity work with his penfriend in Uganda.
Esme Morishima BVSc MRCVS
Esme graduated from the University of Bristol in 2019 and joined Priory the same year. She is keen on all aspects of general practice but has a particular fondness for birds and reptiles. In her spare time she enjoys drawing and painting, and has recently begun performing with a local Chinese lion dance group.
Roxy Lewis CertVN ECC DipVN RVN Nursing Manager
Roxy joined Priory in 2008 as a trainee. She qualified in 2012 and soon became a clinical coach, then in 2013 she was appointed Head Nurse
Roxy has a keen interest in emergency and critical care nursing and in 2017 completed further studies to become a certificate holder, she passed with distinction. In her spare time she enjoys taking her cheeky terrier out for long walks in the countryside.
Sam Bolton Registered Veterinary Nurse
Sam has been at Priory since 2009. Sam has a keen interest in looking after our hospitalised patients and enjoys the variety nursing brings. She became a mum in 2015 and now works part time. She has a particular soft spot for Labradors. Wilf the yellow lab has just joined her family along with her two cats Dennis and Milton.
Katie Powell Registered Veterinary Nurse
Katie qualified in 2016. She has been a part of the team since 2012 starting as a Saturday animal care assistant, then progressing to her role as a veterinary nurse.
Katie has a keen interest in medical nursing and enjoys caring for the hospitalised patients especially assisting with their recovery. At home Katie enjoys spending time with her cocker spaniel Alfie, taking him for long walks in the forest. She also has a keen interest in photography which fills her spare time.
Michelle Mellows Registered Veterinary Nurse
Michelle joined Priory in 2005 and qualified in 2010. She had a couple of breaks away from us whilst raising her two sons Harry and Jack, but we have since welcomed her back! You may recognise Michelle as she conducts nursing clinics every Monday and they are always very popular. She has a keen interest in emergency and critical care with the view to undertake further training in the future. She has a huge soft spot for lurchers owning two called JB and Albert along with her jack russel cross Ziggy. Outside of work she can be found cheering from the football side lines or taking boxing classes.
Charley Thompson Registered Veterinary Nurse
Charly went to Harper Adams University and took the degree route into nursing. She first joined the team in 2014 when she started her univerity placement with us. She gained her qualification in veterinary nursing and practice managmenet (BSc hons) in 2017. Charly has a keen interest in anaesthesia and medical nursing. Outside of work she enjoys spending time playing with her ginger cat George and going for walks in the forest and along the beach.
Jess Hall Registered Veterinary Nurse
Jess started working at Priory Vet Group in December 2013 and in August 2018 qualified from Sparsholt College.
Jess holds confidence clinics at our practice for any pets that are particularly nervous of the vets. She has a keen interest in feline care and behaviour and has her cat at home called Yuna. Jess also has great affection for giant breed dogs and recently after moving to a bigger house, Jess and her partner Dan got Jerry the irish red and white setter. He certainly keeps them on their toes and they love taking him out for long walks.
Aliie Harpham Student Veterinary Nurse
Aliie joined Priory in September 2015. She has just finished her final year of college at Lynwood school of veterinary nursing. Outside of work Aliie lives with her boyfriend and their crazy ex-feral rescue cat Delilah. Aliie is a self-confessed anaesthesia geek and loves all aspects of surgical nursing. This year she took a course on high risk anaesthesia and hopes to gain a certificate in this area in the future. She is passionate about campaigning with the multiple sclerosis society.
Lucy Biddulph Qualified Veterinary Nurse
Lucy joined Priory in 2016 having previously worked at the PDSA as an Animal Care Assistant. She qualified in November this year gaining the level three diploma in small animal veterinary nursing. Her name will soon be entered onto the register and she will then have the title of registered veterinary nurse!
Lucy has recently taken up running and aims to take part in some obstacle course style races in the New Year! She has a keen interest and passion for emergency and critical care at work. Her favourite breed of dog is Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and she has grown up with them in her family home.
Beth Attfield Student Veterinary Nurse
Beth started her training in January 2019. She has found it fantastic to get her training underway and is progressing well with college.
It’s been a busy year for Beth not only starting college but also getting married and turning thirty! Beth and her husband also decided to get a siamese kitten in addition to their two rescue cats, Albie and Milo, so the house is a bit manic these days. Albie was very brave earlier this year and was a blood donor! He was so well behaved and impressed everyone with his loud purr even when sedated.
Georgia Rides Student Veterinary Nurse
Georgia joined the team as a Saturday member of staff before going to Sparsholt Veterinary University to study for her nursing degree. She has returned to us as a degree student to undertake her work placement with us throughout the course of the degree. Georgia thoroughly enjoys all aspects of nursing with a particular fondness for nursing inpatients. Outside of work she likes to go to the gym and to travel with friends.
Rosey Bedford Student Veterinary Nurse
Rosey has been with us since November 2018 and started her veterinary nursing diploma at Sparsholt College in September this year. She has a keen interest in pathology having previously worked as a laboratory technician in a veterinary referral practice in the new forest. Prior to this she had almost ten years of experience working for the NHS in pathology. We are certainly very impressed with the level of knowledge she has brought to the team!
Nikki Jacob-Moss Animal Care Assistant
Nikki studied Animal Care at Kingston Maurward in Dorchester and has been a part of the Priory team since 2007.
She shares her home with her cat Martha, her tortoise Tarquin and not forgetting her husband Paul. In her spare time she enjoys walking and cycling.
Office & Reception Team
Nicola Holmwood Practice Manager
Nicola had previously worked as a vet nurse and a practice manager in Essex before joining Priory in 2018. She is responsible for the non clinical aspects of the practice.
Nicola lives locally with her husband, three children and two Border Terriers Fred and Pipi. When not herding them all around, she enjoys paddle boarding, reading, cooking and yoga.
Sarah Johnson Administrator
Sarah joined PVG in the year 2000 and works as an administrator in the office at Christchurch dealing primarily with insurance claims and paperwork associated with tuberculosis testing in cattle.
Outside of work she enjoys sport, especially playing badminton and dog agility training with her cocker spaniel called Harvey.
Sam Kingswell Receptionist
Sam has been the receptionist at our Highcliffe branch since 1999 and is a very well known face among the locals! She thoroughly enjoys meeting clients and making a fuss of their pets.
When she’s not at work she enjoys walking her little dog, Freddie, along the coast.
Debbie Lloyd Administrator
Debbie has been with Priory Vet Group since 2006 and works as an administrator in the office. She likes nothing more than walking her terrier Harley in the New Forest and meeting other dog walkers.
Her passion in life is her singing and she is part of an award-winning female vocal ensemble called La Nova Singers. They perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and contemporary choral music and give concerts through the area with a regular gig at Highcliffe Castle at Christmas.
Suzy Robbins Receptionist
Suzy moved down to the south coast from County Durham in 1986 for a summer job and liked it so much she never went back. She has worked at Priory Vet Group since 2007 on reception, credit control and general admin.
She loves animals and is a strict vegetarian. In her spare time she enjoys walking, watching movies, eating cake and playing candy crush saga! She is looking forward to starting her latest house renovation project.
Jackie Cole Receptionist
Jackie has worked at Priory Veterinary Group at their Bransgore Branch for many years. She enjoys taking her dogs out in the forest with her horses.
Pam Dolbear Receptionist
Pam is part of the reception team and works at both Christchurch and Highcliffe.
Pam enjoys walking and running on the New Forest with her two cocker spaniels and loves seeing all the ponies and wildlife. Her other passions are baking, spending time with the family and going to live concerts and singing along!
Elaine Grandon Receptionist
I’m not a crazy cat lady, it’s just that I have more than originally planned! A pregnant stray was handed in to us and when no-one claimed her I took her home and eventually she had 4 kittens in my wardrobe. Three of them have gone to excellent homes – i.e. Priory staff. The 4th one is staying with us. We’ve named them Freja and Matthew and my original cat Eddie is slowly getting used to the mayhem
Elaine Leach Credit Control
Originally from London, I moved to Bournemouth in 2000 and love spending time with my husband and our 3 crazy dogs, Ollie the Cocker Spaniel, Buddie the Beagle and Toby the mini dachshund. I am a volunteer for Guide Dogs and in my spare time I also enjoy scrapbooking, making greetings cards and handbag charms and going to rock concerts – the louder the better!

Debbie started at Priory in 2006 and has recently returned after a 20 month break. She works mainly at Christchurch and Bransgore on reception and general admin.
Debbie enjoys going to live gigs, cycling and pilates, but mostly horse riding in the New Forest.
