It’s tick bite prevention week
As the weather is starting to warm up it’s important to be aware that we live and work in an area with a high risk of tick bites, and prevention is the best way to protect yourself and your pets. Ticks are commonly found in areas of long grass and woodland. They are small bloodsucking parasites that can spread diseases to both yourself and your pets, the most common of which is Lyme disease. It is advisable to wear long trousers and sleeves if walking in these areas, and make sure you check yourself and pets thoroughly afterwards. The sooner a tick is removed, the less likely it is to transfer disease. They can be tricky to spot, but adult ticks are about the size of an apple seed. They can be greyish-white, black, brown or reddish-brown. For more information visit: https://www.bsava.com/News/ArticleID/2706/BSAVA-provides-Q-A-advice-to-help-prevent-tick-bites
